According to Premium Times, the Police Command in Borno state and
the State Security Service (SSS) yesterday May 1st had a joint press
conference at the headquarters of the Borno State Police Command where
they stated that the actual number of missing girls is 276 and not 234
as earlier reported and could even be more.
Speaking at the press conference yesterday, the Borno state Police Commissioner, Tanko Lawan said the figure they have
is the authentic number as they have carefully gone round the Chibok
village and its environ to collate the names of girls that have gone
missing since April 14th when the school was attacked by the
Boko Haram men. Continue...
"It is really difficult to say the actual number of girls that were abducted. This is because, students from other secondary schools within the catchment area were deployed to GGSS Chibok to write their final year examinations due to the peculiar security challenges in Borno State,” the police boss said.
“The students were drawn from schools in Izge, Lassa, Ashigashiya and Warabe A. and that is why after the unfortunate incident, there were various flying numbers as to the actual number of girls that were taken away.
“The fact is that the number may likely change, especially when parents from some of the villages come forth and report the disappearance of their daughters. Most importantly, it is not the number that matters because all the girls are very important and we have to find them.
"There is serious collaboration between various security agencies at all levels towards rescuing the girls,” Mr. Lawan said.
Commissioner
Umar advised parents to come forward with the names and identities of
their missing daughters so as to aid rescue efforts. He announced phone
lines that have been made available for well meaning Nigerians to call if
they have any useful information that would help facilitate the
rescue efforts
The numbers provided are: +2348075897377; +23481777309; and +2348036121490.
