This was the resolution of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, UNIMAID chapter which was signed by its Chairman, Dr. Musa Abdullah and Secretary Dr. Ahmed Umar
after the emergency meeting which was called to discuss the
selection of the new vice chancellor.
chairman Alhaji Lawan Marguba should be cautioned against
interfering with smooth functions of the council.
“The process of the selection of UNIMAID vice chancellor
should continue to its logical conclusion without further delay,” it said, adding, “All other issues in contention should be brought before the full Governing Council for deliberations and conclusion in line with the university rules and procedures,” it added.
It would be recalled that the selection board of the university
had on Thursday, April 25th in Abuja, interviewed 11
candidates who had applied to replace Professor Mala M.
Daura, whose tenure will end on June 2, 2014.
However, the selection process was reportedly suspended on
the orders of the council chairman following the alleged receipt of about 21 petitions against one of the front-line contenders.
