With Sunderland in relegation battle, another fight has now landed on their hands as forward, Adam Johnson started trials over his  child sex charges.
The England international on Monday, May 18 showed up at the Peterlee Magistrates for the trial of his three counts of sexual activity with a child under 16 years and one of grooming.
Johnson was pictured arriving the courthouse with his long-term girlfriend, Stacey Flounders at his side.
According to a Daily Mail report,, Johnson’s attorney, Paul Morris, has indicated that his client will plead not guilty.
The case has been adjourned until June 3 when Johnson will reappear before Durham Crown Court.
He has been released on conditional bail and will be available to play for Sunderland in their final two games of the season at Arsenal and Chelsea.
